Over the holiday weekend, 46 students from OHS traveled to Washington, DC for the annual Bradshaw History Tour. Here is a fast and furious review of our travels, much akin to the rapid and amazing experience we had touring our nation’s capital.

Friday

Woke up… Took a long bus ride… Arrived in DC… Ordered local pizza… Watched the Boy’s Basketball game in a conference room… Tough game… Lights out.

Saturday

Woke up… Toured the White House… Looked at the rose garden, red room, blue room, and green room… It was really cool… Took the metro to Arlington Cemetery… Saw JFKs grave… Watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier… Very powerful… Went to the Pentagon… It’s big… Went to the Iwo Jima Memorial (US Marine Corps War Memorial)… It displays one of the most impactful moments from World War II… Went to the Smithsonian… Ate lunch… Went to the National Museum of Natural History… Went to the Natural Museum of Air and Space… Both very cool… Went to the National Archives… We have a lot of archives… Finished the day at the Pentagon City Mall for dinner… What a great day.

Sunday

Woke up… Went to Ford’s Theatre… Booth shot Lincoln there… Went souvenir shopping… Back to the Smithsonian… Holocaust Museum and African American History Museum… Both were very moving… Memorial tour time… We saw the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool… Then the Washington Monument… Then the US Address Memorial… Then the Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address Memorial… Then the Vietnam Veteran Memorial… Then the World War II Memorial… Then Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial… And then the Thomas Jefferson Memorial… They were monumental… We finished off the day with Golden Corral… Wow… That was incredible.

Monday

Woke up… Took a long bus ride… Arrived at OHS.

While this was a quick rundown of events, this trip was nothing short of unbelievable and we highly recommend everyone to go in the future. Thank you to Mrs. Luttrell, Coach Fallin, Mrs. Harper, and Mr. Houston for chaperoning/planning this once-in-a-lifetime trip to our nation’s capital. Check out some pictures from the trip below.
