“Coming into high school I had always heard stories from my brother and sister about their high school experiences and I imagined mine would be like theirs,” Megan Cannon starts. Over her four years as an OHS Red Devil, she has had several experiences, each year was something different for Cannon, but something that always stayed the same was her love for her cross country team.

“My coaches at OHS have helped me grow so much throughout my high school athletic career.” Cannon cites that her coaches all thought her discipline, self-control and the ability to pursue her dream.

The fondest memory of Cannon’s at OHS is the friends she’s made and the races she’s had. Her cross country season was different than expected for Cannon. “We underwent many trials,” Cannon says. But through the season she was able to lean on her teammates for more than just strength but also encouragement.

Cannon’s favorite aspect of OHS is the atmosphere of the school. “There are so many different kinds of people and so many different walks of life, but we all respect each other and care for each other because “We are… Owensboro!”” Cannon said.

Before Cannon turns the tassel on OHS, she has a state track meet. That happens to be the same night as the graduation. “When I’m walking the line I’ll probably be thinking about how glad I am that I made it back on time!”

After high school, Cannon plans to go to Western Kentucky University and major in Physical Education.
