Satterfield named new Head Coach for Louisville

Scott Satterfield who was previously the head coach for Appalachian State was introduced Tuesday as the new head football coach at the University of Louisville. He spent his time as a player and a coach for the Mountaineers.

 

While Satterfield was a player for the Mountaineers, he played the quarterback position and started 27 games by leading them to an undefeated regular season and the quarterfinal of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs in 1995. He also earned all-conference honors during career as a player.

 

As the head coach for Appalachian State, he had success by moving the program up to a new level from being in the FCS to the FBS and moving up to the sun belt conference from the southern conference. He also earned the program three consecutive bowl wins. Winning the Camellia Bowl in 2015 and 2016 and the Dollar General Bowl in 2017. The mountaineers earned three consecutive sun belt conference championships from 2016-2018 and 1 Sun Belt East Division Championship in 2018. Satterfield won this year’s Sun Belt Coach of the Year. His overall coaching record at Appalachian State is 51-24. Before he was the head coach for the mountaineers, he was the wide receivers, running backs, quarterbacks coach, and offensive coordinator.   

 

The Louisville fan base is extremely excited on what Satterfield has to bring to the program after the firing of Bobby Petrino with a 2-10 season. He mentioned at the press conference on Tuesday that he wants to lead the program to ACC Championships and appearances in the College Football Playoff.  He also said he wants to follow the tradition by getting players into the NFL. The fans also hope Satterfield can bring the success he had at Appalachian State to Louisville. Satterfield will start of his first season at Louisville by playing Notre Dame which is a blue blood in college football at Cardinal Stadium to show that he is the right person for this job. The glory days are on their way back to the football program.
