“When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” is The New Sound Music Needed

Billie Eilish recently released her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, on March 29th, 2019.

As someone who has been a fan of her music since the announce of her initial EP, I was very excited to give her official album a listen and see where she took it.

I can happily say she did not disappoint.

Beginning with the track “!!!!!!!”, which is just fourteen seconds of Eilish taking out her invisalign, she immediately lets listeners know she is still a 17 year old girl with a sense of humor. The album then jumps into the track “bad guy”,  which is one of the most popular songs on the album. Right off the bat, the albums sound is established and is much different than her previous EP. While it’s always a risk when artists stray from their original sound, her decision payed off, and the album is beautiful.

Her vibrato mixed with the vulnerability of her voice makes every song unique, mixing the upbeat songs such as “my strange addiction” and “you should see me in a crown” with the more melodic songs, like “i love you” and “listen before i go”. Each song carries its own flare and style; while she is not a pop artist, it’s only a matter of time before her songs make it to the airwaves.

Aside from it being an amazing album on it’s own, the 17 year old managed to swing a number one spot on the Billboard 200 the first week of its release. This is a historic feat, as she is the first artist born in the 2000’s to hit number one. She has also received praise from musical legends, such as Thom Yorke and Dave Grohl.

Overall, the album has no downside. The innocence of her voice alongside the lyrics she writes has developed into a style that’s as unique as the way she dresses. It’s clear that Eilish had an idea in mind with her album, and she executed it beautifully. To give it a listen and find out for yourself, click here.
