Social Studies Switch Up
If you haven’t noticed, Mr. Wimsatt, former social studies teacher and the most recent golf coach, left OHS a few weeks ago. As of right now there is a temporary replacement, but after winter break, what’s going to happen?
Mr. Russelburg, Chair of the Social Studies department says that Mr. DeLacey has held interviews however he can’t release any information until the job has been officially filled. Ms. Sparks is filling in until winter break when they will hopefully have a permanent replacement. Ms. Sparks said she was introduced to OHS by Ms. Ewing after they met at a track meet. Ms. Sparks majored graduated college with a degree in Social Studies. “I plan on being a teacher but it depends what opens up,” she said.
While OHS will miss Mr. Wimsatt, we are anxiously waiting for the news on who will be the newest staff member. Until the waiting can be fulfilled let’s focus on the past a little bit. Tim Wimsatt taught at OHS for around four years. Wimsatt said via text, “What I will miss most about OHS are the great learning relationships I developed with so many different students. Each day I had the opportunity to learn from them, and my goal was to always create a space where their opinions could be voiced and respected and heard. The students were why I showed up every day, and I will deeply miss those conversations and interactions the most.”
