For students looking to further their education after high school, choosing the right college can make or break the chapter of your life.

I personally made the mistake of waiting until halfway through my senior year to take my first college visit; however, my trip to the University of Louisville last Friday was very beneficial. On this visit, I was taken on a tour of the campus with a group of students from other schools. This tour showed me how large and full of life a college campus can be. We were shown the library, dorms, the school of arts, the school of law, the fitness center, and other important areas on campus.

For anyone who wants to know what a college has to offer outside education, visiting a campus is one of the best ways to learn about things to do and places to go at that college. In order to take more out of this visit, I plan on visiting the University of Kentucky in the near future. By visiting a different campus, I will be able to compare and contrast the different things the two schools have to offer.

Some students here at OHS have taken full advantage of this opportunity to visit a variety of schools, taking days off of school here and there to tour schools they are interested in. “Taking multiple college visits really helped me to pick which school was best for me,” said Christian Hale, an OHS senior who has visited UK, UofL, and Centre. Hale recommends that anyone who hasn’t gone on a college visit or has only gone on one should at least go on two campus tours in order to narrow down their college search.

These visits aren’t just for those close to graduation. Underclassmen can start their college search early by taking campus visits. Sophomore, Carter Rose, who has toured both UK and USI says that taking his college visits early gave him a “head start,” and that he already has an idea of where he wants to go.

So, for those interested in higher education, college visits are one of the most important ways to learn about different universities. The best way to go about these visits is to take the as early as possible, and to take as many as you can. Taking these visits early can help plan you plan ahead and by taking a lot of visits you really know which school is right for you.
