While the majority of the world is stuck in their homes during this crazy COVID-19 pandemic, extreme boredom has become a daily feeling for most. There’s not much to do once you’re finished with your homework for the day, since most everything besides grocery stores are closed and we all have to practice social distancing and be away from our friends and family. Therefore, there is plenty of time to find some new shows to binge watch. Here is a list of some of the best shows to watch during quarantine that should cure your boredom.

American Horror Story

If you enjoy scary movies, you should like American Horror Story. Everything from aliens, to  serial killers, to witches, and many more are featured in this chilling horror series. The show currently has nine seasons on Netflix, all which have a completely different storyline. So, you can start from whichever season looks most interesting to you. Some seasons even loosely follow true stories, making it even creepier. For the most part, each season contains the same actors and actresses throughout the entire show. If you think you might watch American Horror Story, don’t plan on sleeping at night. However, this might not even be a problem for most of us- or at least not for me, since my new bed time is around six or seven in the morning.

Santa Clarita Diet

Warning: don’t watch this one if you have a weak stomach. This Netflix Original series follows the lives of the seemingly normal Hammond family in Santa Clarita, California. One day, the mother of the family, Sheila (played by Drew Barrymore) develops an odd and intense craving for raw meat. As she discovers she is “undead”, or basically a zombie who can survive on only human flesh, she and her family must find ways to meat (funny, right?) her needs, but still try to seem normal to everyone else. This adds tons of chaos to their lives and although their situation seems extremely dark and morbid, the show is actually very comical. Unfortunately, this show ended on a cliffhanger after only three seasons, but in my opinion, is one of the most underrated Netflix shows I have watched.

I Am Not Okay With This

This Netflix Original series was recently released less than two months ago, therefore it only has one season. There are only seven episodes, which all are around 20 minutes long, making it a good show to cure your boredom and finish all in one night. This show is the reason why my sleep schedule is completely ruined, because that’s exactly what I did. It features Wyatt Oleff and Sophia Lillis, who previously appeared on screen together in the popular horror film “It” in 2017. The story follows the life of a high school student, Sydney, who lost her father and struggles daily dealing with grief. When I first started watching, I thought it would be another basic and corny high school show. However, I changed my mind once Sydney eventually discovered that she could move things with her mind as a result of her suppressed feelings of anger and frustration. The most interesting thing about it: she can’t control it.

All American

Recently, this series has been a favorite among many high school students. All American airs on The CW and currently has two seasons out that are also on Netflix, with a third season already confirmed. Spencer James, a normal high school football player, is recruited to a team in Beverly Hills. Spencer must move in with his new coach, Billy Baker, in order to protect his transfer permit. Billy’s son, Jordan, isn’t excited in the least to have to share his father’s and the team’s attention with Spencer, which adds some conflict. While struggling to find his place in this new life of his, Spencer befriends Jordan’s sister, who also has her own struggles. The series is also based on a true story; it was inspired by the life of Spencer Paysinger, an NFL linebacker.

The Vampire Diaries

This one is super basic, but I couldn’t leave it off the list. Most teenage girls have watched this show at least once, if not two or three times. The show takes place in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, which has lots of supernatural history. It mainly focuses on the life of Elena Gilbert, who gets involved with the supernatural world around her junior year of high school. A love triangle is created as Elena falls in love with not one, but two vampires over the course of the story. To make things super complicated, these two vampires happen to be brothers; Stefan and Damon Salvatore. This show is action and drama packed and it seems as if there is a new conflict in every episode. It can be a little cheesy at times, but it will forever remain one of my all time favorites. Other shows such as The Originals and Legacies (which is currently trending on Netflix’s top 10 list) follow the lives of other characters featured in The Vampire Diaries.

Ozark

This show is one of the most popular ones at the moment, it is currently ranked second in the U.S. as of today. It recently just released its third season March 27th. This drama series is about a man, Marty Byrde who moves his wife and two children from Chicago to a community in the Ozarks. Marty has a little problem after a money-laundering scheme takes a wrong turn, so he must stay on the move and pay off an immense debt to a drug lord in order to protect his family. These unfortunate and dangerous circumstances force this broken family to become close again. Many people compare this story to “Breaking Bad”, so if you enjoy that show, Ozark may be a good one for you to watch.

The Act

This true story is based on the life on Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was made to believe she had numerous disabilities and disorders by her overprotective mother, Clauddinea “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Gypsy, played by Joe King, was confined to a wheelchair most of her life and was fed through a feeding tube until she discovered at the age of 19 that she is completely healthy. She eventually gets herself into an online relationship with a man named Nicholas, played by Calum Worthy (Dez from Austin and Ally, for those who watched that show as a little kid.) Nicholas and Gypsy begin planning on meeting up in person, and make a scheme to kill Gypsy’s control-freak mother. The tension builds up throughout the series, as the murder nears closer and closer each episode. This show is on Hulu, so you do have to deal with the annoying ads, but it is definitely worth it.

Tiger King

While I personally haven’t watched this show, I had to include it on this list for obvious reasons. As everyone knows, this show is insanely popular right now and is ranked first on the Netflix top 10 list. This crime documentary series is about the life of Joe Exotic, a man from Oklahoma, who owns a private zoo of large cats. It explores the community of big cat conservationists, including Big Cat Rescue owner Carol Baskin. Joe is eventually accused of exploiting and abusing the animals in his zoo, and is in prison today. This TV sensation is super trendy because there is lots of ambiguity surrounding what actually happened with some of the people in this series.
