So I am taking Computer Essentials this year. It’s a cool class taught by Mr. Ryan Metzger. But it’s also one of three classes that are featured in a brand-new, career and technical education pathway here at OHS, Media Arts.

The courses currently being offered in the new Media Arts pathway are Intro to Media Arts, Multimedia Publishing along Computer Essentials with more on the horizon for the 2023-2024 school year. Each class is a step up from the last and is designed to prepare students to enter into a career in media production (job examples: radio, television, video-game design, multimedia reporting, movie director, camera operation, etc.). Students will have the opportunity to intern at a radio or television station while in this pathway, and they will also be able to secure an industry certification in Adobe Photoshop!

As for some background on Mr. Metzger, he has been in broadcast communications for over 16 years, as he starting working as a broadcaster for a radio station in high school. He has a degree in broadcast communications-television/radio production and management. Mr. Metzger has been a Red Devil for three years with six years total as a teacher.

Here are some of the projects that the students have been working on in Mr. Metzger’s Multimedia Publishing class. If you are interested in learning more about the fun and interesting projects taking place in Media Arts, be sure to stop by Room 265 and talk to Mr. Metzger or speak with your guidance counselor about entering into this pathway.
