Last week, the OHS JROTC competed at the Apollo Invitational Drill Meet and did exceptionally well. There were two separate divisions, one was for first-year cadets and the other for the advanced cadets, which they won! The divisions also have sub-categories in which the JROTC placed first in unarmed platoon and second in freshman color guard.

Members of the JROTC also compete individually in competitions called “Knockouts”. During this everyone is given commands and if they don’t complete the command correctly, they are “knocked out”. The match goes until there is only one cadet remaining. There were three knockouts, in which hundreds of cadets were eliminated.

Here is how OHS scored in Knockouts:

Freshman: Htee Htoo 4th

Advanced Unarmed: Tyler Carlock 9th, Hser Htoo 5th, Owen Moore 3rd

Advanced Armed: Deigo Loza 8th, Casey Kessinger 5th, Maya Montalvo 3rd, Benjamin McCarthy 2nd, Raquel Ixmatlahua 1st (also placed 1st in Knockout at a meet the week prior)

JROTC has their final drill meet of the year on March 11th. They will be competing against the other programs in our county, which are at Daviess County and Apollo. Good luck OHS JROTC!
