Boys Soccer 6-1 Victory over Catholic
The Devils soccer team desperately needed a district win after a 0-1 loss to Apollo and a 4-3 loss to Daviess County at the beginning of the season. They got their chance on Thursday, August 30th against the Catholic Aces.
The Devils wanted to run the scoreboard up against the Aces, but were careful not to underestimate the team at the same time.
The first half was dominated by the Devils as they possessed throughout the field. Goals for Owensboro were scored by Andrew Saltsman(11) and Paxton Jenkins (11). The Aces managed to convert a penalty kick towards the end of the first half, leaving the score at 2-1 for halftime.
The score was much closer than the Devils were comfortable with after the first half, so they attacked more aggressively in the second. Andrew Saltsman(11) and Paxton Jenkins (11) both had two more goals in the second half, leaving them both with hat tricks. The Aces were scoreless for the second half. The game ended 6-1 in the Devils’ favor.
Austin Sovar(12) had three assists for the game, while Fermin Mosqueda(12) and Grayson McFarland(11) both had one.
After being asked about the game, Senior and spectator Isaac Nalley said, “It was very fun to watch. Our boys were shooting frequently. We played well.”
The Devils currently have a three game winning streak, and they hope to continue this streak for their game against Madisonville on September 4th.
