Disney Do-Overs; tickets to Dullsville

With less than two months until the end of 2018, the new year is creeping around the corner. Soon everyone will be embarking on their “new year, new me” mentality, striving to get rid of their past and focus on their future. It’s out with the old and in with the new…. unless you happen to be Disney Studios.

Lately, Disney has created a pattern of taking a classic Disney animation and remaking it as a live action movie filled with big-named celebrities, or creating a spinoff. Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Maleficent, Mulan, and The Jungle Book have all been turned into “new and improved” productions, just to name a few. While these reboots aren’t creating any growth in the Disney universe, the public is still eating it up. I’ll give credit where it’s due, Disney knows what they’re doing. Remaking an old classic into a modern movie gives parents a chance to indulge in nostalgia while showing their kids a piece of their childhood at the theatre. Their brilliance is great for making a quick buck, but without developing a new storyline, it’s beginning to be a buzzkill.

We all know Disney has the creative genius to come up with an interesting new movie featuring incredible characters and an awesome storyline. Come on now, if they can make Frozen, they can make anything. However, this company is slowly becoming money hungry and straying away from the public appeal that made them so magical in the first place. Disney knows that their die-hard fans will show up to anything with the Mickey Mouse reel airing before the film, so why would they put in the time of making a new movie when they can just revamp an old one?

The Disney studio producers are showing no signs of stopping either, as we have The Lion King and Dumbo to look forward to in the future. So much for new year, new movies.
