Devils Dominate Grayson County by 26 Points
Grayson County was coming off of a 4 game winning streak as they traveled to Owensboro on Tuesday, January 15th. With this winning streak, the Devils anticipated a competitive game.
The game started out very slowly, with both teams scoring conservatively. Both teams also played solid defense, restricting the amount of scoring. The Devils managed to pull ahead, ending the quarter 13-7.
The second quarter was evenly matched, for Owensboro scored 14 points compared to Grayson County’s 12. This ended the first half 27-19, a decent lead for the Devils. Owensboro played well in the first half, but not to their full potential, hoping to pick up the intensity in the second half.
The third quarter was the highest scoring portion of the game for the Devils. Owensboro was able to double Grayson County’s points in the third quarter, scoring 18 points to 9. As the Devils had hoped, they increased their intensity and racked up the scoreboard, along with strong defense against the opposition. The third quarter ended 45-28.
With a 17 point lead starting the last quarter, Owensboro had ensured a victory. However, the Devils maintained their effort and scored 15 points. With Grayson County slowing down, they only put up 6 points on the scoreboard. The final score was 60-24, a 26 point lead.
The Devils had the lead over Grayson County for the entire game, but the second half was a turning point as they severely increased the deficit. Junior Monte Owsley commented on the second half, “Well during half time the coaches really sat us down and talked to us and let us know we should have been doing better than what we were. You can win or lose any game no matter what team you are or who you’re playing, and only having a small lead won’t guarantee you a win. So after half time we really had to pull it together to really secure the win. We had to show them what team they were really playing and play to our full potential.”
