Owensboro Basketball Remains Undefeated in the District

0

On Friday, February 1st, the Owensboro boys basketball team battled against the Apollo Eagles at home. As the Devils held a 5-0 record within the district, the basketball team hoped to stay undefeated. After Owensboro’s 77-44 victory over Apollo earlier in the season, the Devils were expected to win.

In the first quarter, the Eagles surprisingly kept up with the Devils. The quarter was very fasted paced and high scoring with Owensboro scoring a total of 16 points and the Eagles scoring 17. With the Eagles in the lead, Owensboro planned to pick up the pace in further quarters.

Owensboro was much more aggressive in the second quarter, taking back the lead from Apollo before the halftime buzzer. The first half ended 33-29. The Devils took the lead, but Apollo was close behind and still competing.

The third quarter was a game changer. Early in the quarter, Owensboro started with an 8-1 run. The Devils continued to pound away at Apollo’s defense while keeping Apollo’s scoring minimal. Owensboro scored a staggering 30 points over Apollo’s 7 points. This ended the quarter 63-36, securing Owensboro’s victory.

Finally, in the fourth quarter, the game began to slow down with the Devil’s significant lead. Non-starters took the court for both teams, and Owensboro was playing for time. Owensboro almost managed to double Apollo’s scored, ending the game 80-43.

Owensboro is now 6-0 in the district and 11-0 within the region. Senior Darrion Wimsatt led the game with 27 points and Senior Dante Greer ended with 12.
