Baseball Over the Break – Fort Walton Beach, FL

After the long, 8 and 1/2 hour drive to Fort Walton Beach, Florida form Owensboro, Kentucky, the OHS Baseball team was ready to play some ball.

Before Spring Break, the Owensboro Red Devils went 5-2. Wins include Meade County, Bowling Green, Ohio County, Henderson County, and Muhlenberg County. The Bowling Green win was off a walk off two RBI single from Junior Nick Belcher.

On Monday, April 1st, the Owensboro Red Devils battled highly ranked Madison Central Indians. The Devils battled but came up short and fell 6-5 to the top 25 Indians.

On Tuesday, April 2nd, the Owensboro Red Devils played the Lafayette Generals. After several innings of a close scoring game, the Devils ran out of pitching. Several walks and runs later, the Devils fall to Lafayette 10-3.

On Wednesday, April 3rd, the Devils played the Nelson County Cardinals in the morning. After an offensive onslaught, the Devils ended up pulling away and winning 12-9. Junior Braxton French blasted a first pitch fastball for a home run over the right center fence.

Thursday morning, on April 4th at 9 AM, the Devils battle the best team in Fort Walton, the North Oldham Mustangs. The first 5 innings went the Devils way, leading 4-2. The Devils had home runs from Juniors Nick Belcher and Trace Grenier. After the 5th innings, the Mustangs heated up their bats and ended up beating the Devils 9-4.

The Friday morning game against Henry County was cancelled due to inclement weather.

All in all, the Devils battled against some extremely talented teams down south. The hitting came alive, but the relief pitching slowed down. This week, the Devils battle Franklin-Simpson today, Monday April 8th, at 6:00 PM. Friday, April 12th, the Devils play district opponent Daviess County at 7.
