Devils Draw with the Colonels in the Season Opener

It was a bittersweet feeling as former soccer coach Dale Poole returns to Dale Poole Field at Shifely Park as the Owensboro Red Devils battle the Henderson County Colonels.

Owensboro had several attempts to take down the Colonels, but several unlucky bounces fell the way of the Colonels. Junior Paxton Jenkins had three out of the five shots on goal that night. Senior Austin Sovar and Junior Grayson McFarland each had a shot on goal.

One attempt in the 16th minute was very unlucky, as Junior Paxton Jenkins’s free kick banged off the crossbar.

In the last three minutes, Grayson McFarland’s shot rolled across the goal face, inches away from crushing the Colonels.

After being asked about the pace of Henderson County’s play, Senior Austin Sovar says “They were very fast, physical, and just an overall tough team. It was a very even game; both teams had their chance to win.”

Goalkeeper Radley Worth had two game saving saves and was voted Max Preps Player of the Game for the devils.

The Red Devils battle crosstown rival Apollo Eagles Thursday, August 16th at Dale Poole Field. The Junior Varsity plays at 5:30 PM and the Varsity is planned to start at 7:00 PM.
