Devils Soccer Works through the Rain in the Colonial Showcase Tournament
On Saturday September 22, the boys soccer team played in the Colonial Showcase Tournament. This tournament took place in Christian County. The team played both Hopkinsville and Christian County.
In the first game against Hopkinsville, the Devils came out very slowly. It was raining and the field was sloppy, with the ball skipping off of the grass. Within the first 20 minutes, Hopkinsville had scored 4 goals. Owensboro was devastated. However, they fought back for the rest of the first half, scoring 2 goals.
In the second half, Owensboro came out strong and aggressive. 2 more goals were scored by the Devils to tie up the score. The game ended 5-4 in Hopkinsville’s favor despite the Devil’s efforts. Coach Ryan Haley was disappointed with his team for letting in 4 quick goals, but was proud of the way they fought back.
The second game was played against Christian County. The rain was still pouring. Christian County played a high, flat defense line. The Devils took advantage by playing countless through balls on to goal. The score was 6-0 at the end of the first half, and the game ended 9-1 for the Devils.
Next the Devils play Bowling Green at home on September 24th. This will be Senior Night for the soccer team, so be sure to show up and support the seniors!
