OHS Men’s Soccer Beats Catholic 2-0
After a scoreless first half, the Owensboro Red Devils battled and got two second-half goals against Catholic in a 9th District match on Thursday night at Shifley Park.
Catholic stacked the box with defenders, so goals were hard to come by. Senior Austin Sovar describes Catholic’s new defensive strategy as “compact.” He adds “It is very hard to thread the ball through to other players. We couldn’t play the possession-like game that we usually play. We had to adjust.”
Junior Andrew Saltsman started the scoring with a goal from 10 yards out. Assist was credited to Freshman Josh Head.
Senior Fermin Mosqueda rebounded his own shot from 16 yards out in the 69th minute. His first shot deflected of the Catholic goalie, but still got inside the post for the final goal of the night.
The Owensboro Red Devils were credited with 22 shots against Catholic. Their record goes to 10-3, 3-3 in 9th District with a tournament in Hopkinsville awaiting them for the weekend.
