Red Devils Triumph Over McLean County 66-47

Devils pay close attention to Coach Drake during their timeout.

The Owensboro boys basketball team met McLean County at home on Saturday, January 16th. McLean County has been a long time rival within the region for the Red Devils, making this an important game as Owensboro prepares for the regional tournament later in the year. 

In the first quarter, the Devils gained an early lead, outscoring McLean County 14-9. Early on, this is a securing lead, but Owensboro still needed to keep up the pace in further quarters. 

The second quarter was high scoring for both teams. Owensboro scored 24 points over McLean County’s 16 points, ending the first half 38-25. The Red Devils were able to increase the deficit to 13 points.

Owensboro kept the intensity against McLean County for the entire second half, scoring 28 points and summing up the scoreboard to 66 points. McLean County was unable to keep up with Owensboro, only scoring 19 points. The final score was 66-38.

The leading scorers for Owensboro were Junior Jaiden Greathouse and Freshman Gavin Wimsatt. Jaiden scored a total of 16 points along with 8 rebounds. Gavin managed to put 15 points on the scoreboard and achieved 11 rebounds. 

As a team, the Devils managed to hold a 50% field goal percentage (26 out of 52), a free throw percentage of 64.3% (9 out of 14), and a total of 34 rebounds.
