The Owensboro Boys’ Soccer team had been preparing for this game all preseason, so hopes were high as the referee blew the beginning whistle.

The game started with high intensity and high pressure from both teams. Both sides had a large crowd to support their teams.

The first half was in Owensboro’s favor as they were the more attacking and possessing team. They led 1-0 off of an early goal from Junior Paxton Jenkins.

The second half started evenly, but the Panthers played a more aggressive style of play as the game went on. Goals game alternatively from each team, but Daviess County pulled away, leaving the game at 4-3.

The Devils’ goals in the second half game from Grayson McFarland (11) off of a hard ground shot and from Reis Dickinson (11), scoring a beautiful header off of a cross from Andrew Saltsman (11).

After being asked about the game, spectator Eric Epperson (12) said, “The game was very emotional. The two student sections were going at it the whole game. It’s disappointing that the ball didn’t roll our way after multiple losses to Daviess County.”

Player and scorer Reis Dickinson (11) commented, “I’m disappointed with the result, but I think we played well and worked hard. It was a really tough game. Now we just need to prepare for our next game against DC.”

Overall it was a very close and exciting game. There were countless shots and attacking opportunities from both teams.

The Devils were heartbroken as the ran off of the field. None of the players have ever beaten the Panthers, and they hoped that would change after this game. They fought hard and played well, but the game didn’t go there way.  Daviess County is a quality team, and Owensboro High School hopes their team can rise above the Panthers next time.
